Yes! You read it correctly, Google is testing Volvo Self-Driving Cars on the city streets of Mountain View, California the City where the company is headquartered. This is a crucial new phase in the attempt to make this advanced technology standard in cars. 

Volvo explained that it began testing 100 cars on the streets near its headquarters in Sweden as a project called "Drive Me". Erik Coeligh, a technical specialist at Volvo explains, "The test cars are now able to handle lane following, speed adaption and merging traffic all by themselves."

How does it work?

The Google driverless cars rely on video cameras, radar sensors, lasers, and a database of information collected rom manually driven cars to help navigation. 

The Google driverless cars starred on the freeways and now has adapted to driving thousands of miles on the streets of Mountain View which is a small suburban community about 35 miles from San Francisco. 

The Google test cars have been operating since 2009 and have road over 700,000 miles. Google reports that none of vehicles have caused accidents while operating in self-drive mode. By 2020, Google hopes to pair with auto manufactures to produce these Driverless cars. Before this can happen the Google cars ail have to be taught how to drive on more streets in first Mountain View but then other cities.
