Our Ramsey Volvo dealership is proud to announce for another year, three of our Volvo cars have been awarded an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award, including the 2014 Volvo S80, 2014 Volvo XC60 and the 2014 Volvo S60.
The IIHS, or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards vehicles for their crashworthiness, or how well they protect their occupants during a crash and their crash avoidance and mitigation - new vehicle technology that can prevent a crash or lessen the severity.
2014 Top Safety Pick
To earn an IIHS 2014 Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn Good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests as well as Good or Acceptable rating in the small overlap front test.
2014 Top Safety Pick+
To earn an IIHS 2014 Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must meet the Top Safety Pick criteria and also earn a basic, advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
In order to determine the crashworthiness of the vehicle, the IIHS rates cars in five categories of performance, moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. These test are then scored based on ratings of Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor.
As for Crash Avoidance, a new technology and mitigation, the IIHS assigns vehicles with available front crash prevention systems/technology and gives them ratings of basic, advanced and superior based on the type of system and performance in track tests.
Our Volvo vehicles are built with standard safety features including City Safety, Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, Emergency Brake Light, Anti-submarining protection, Collapsible Steering Column, Energy absorbing Frontal Structure, Energy-absorbing Interior, Head Restraints, Inflatable Curtain, Protection of Unprotected Road Users, Reinforced Passenger Compartment, Whiplash Protection System and Side Impact Protection System.
Volvo continues to move forward toward the Vision 2020 that no one should be killed or injured in a new Volvo. To learn more about the Volvo IIHS Top Safety Picks visit the IIHS.org website. Also you can see the Volvo Crash Tests on the IIHS Youtube.
