Volvo City Safety NJ

When it comes to safety, Volvo is committed to making driving safer with IntelliSafe technologies including City Safety. City Safety is an auto brake technology that uses designed to help the driver avoid low speed collisions when driving in slow-moving, stop-and-go traffic. City Safety technology is always looking out for you – detecting potential danger ahead, warning you and preparing the brakes for a quick response. Whether it be another vehicle, a cyclist or even a pedestrian, City Safety is your co-pilot on the road to safety.

Volvo's City Safety technology works with the use of camera and radar unit integrated at the top of the windscreen in front of the interior rear-view mirror. The radar detect objects in front of the car to determine their position & movement and the distance to them.

Volvo Collision Avoidance Automatic Braking

Collision Avoidance Automatic Braking

Volvo's City Safety automatic braking technology protects pedestrians, whether they are in motion or standing still. Mounted lasers detect pedestrians or cyclists and if a potential collision is detected, City Safety responds with a warning to the driver.

If the driver does not respond to the alert, your Volvo vehicle will apply the brake in an effort to avoid – or lessen – the impact. If a cyclist should swerve in front of your Volvo, cyclist detection technology issues an alert and will apply the brake for you if a rapid response is necessary.

Volvo indicates that City Safety addresses:

  • Oncoming vehicles, including motorcycles and cycles, when the driver turns left (or right in left-hand traffic). City Safety detects a potential crash and brakes automatically in order to avoid a collision or mitigate the consequences of a crash.
  • Vehicles, including motorcycles, traveling in the same direction. City Safety is able to avoid a collision if the relative speed difference between the two vehicles is up to 31 mph. At speeds higher than 31 mph, the automatic braking system assists in reducing the consequences of the collision.
  • Cyclists crossing the path of the car or suddenly swerving out in front it. Pedestrians walking out in front of the car. Depending on the situation, City Safety is able to avoid a collision if the relative speed difference is up to 28 mph or assists in reducing the consequences of the impact.
